So, you want to make your space feel bigger? Surprisingly, with proper planning and attention to detail, it's pretty simple. An interior designer's job is to approach each project with a fresh perspective, but there's a few holy grail tips we use in every project to achieve the desired outcome.

Follow these tips, and you're one step closer to making a significant change to the look and feel of your space.

Tip #1 - Declutter & Organize.

Yesss we know you've probably heard this one before, but it's important to remove unnecessary clutter to free up space. A good rule of thumb is if you haven't used it in a year, you probably never will. Unless it's sentimental, kick it to the curb (or goodwill).

Storage solutions like open shelving and drawers are your best friend.

Tip #2 - Draw It Out.

When working with small spaces this is probably the MOST important tip and you don't need to be Picasso to do it. The easiest way to map out your floorplan is by focusing on one wall at a time. Grab a tap measurer, measure your first wall, draw a straight line (with a ruler if needed), write the measurement underneath, then rinse and repeat. That's It!

After you've drawn out your floorplan, choosing the right size furniture will be a breeze. Avoid bulky pieces and instead opt for multifunctional furniture and statement decor.

Tip #3 - Brighten and Coordinate Your Color Scheme.

The first step to brightening up your space is ensuring you're starting with a clean slate. If your walls aren't white or a color close to it, it's time to consider painting those walls. Next, choose a neutral color palette for your furniture and decor. Using light colors throughout the room will make your space feel bright and airy.

When choosing an accent color opt for the neutral cousins of that color. (EX: Instead of lime green opt for sage. Love pink? Try a dusty rose or mauve color.)

Tip #4 - Find The LIGHT!

Look around your space and find ways to bring in as much natural light as possible. If you have heavy window coverings that can be removed, replace them with sheer or light-colored curtains.

Tip #5 - Mirror Mirror on the Wall.

Mirrors help reflect light and give the illusion that your space is bigger. Place a large mirror in an empty corner or across from a window, and watch your space instantly expand.
